Our Elementary School Campus is hosting an Old Fashioned Open House on March 11, 2010 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Parents are invited to visit classrooms, view artwork on display and browse the Scholastic Book Fair.

Our Elementary Chess Team competed in the Regional Chess Competition.

There were 13 full teams - 108 players K - 5th grade. Each school is allowed to bring its top 10 players - half of whom were 5th graders! As a Team we came from behind and won 1st place and the honor of going to State at the Oregon Convention Center March 12 and 13!

What makes it especially extraordinary is that we only had one 5th grader, Grant Saxton, who won all 5 of his games and 1st place honors 5th grade! He is also going to State individually.

The next highest grades on our team were two 3rd graders - Nehemiah Jackson who won all 5 of his games and 1st place honors for K - 4th grades. He is also going to State individually! Garet Wisenbaker who won 4 out of 5 gameS, tied for 3rd K - 4th grades. Next was Sophia Lukovich who won 3 out of 5 games - this was her first tournament ever! Rounding out the Fabulous Five was Brandon Cannard, a PC kindergartner, won 2 1/2 games!

We took all the first places they had: Team, 5th grade, and K - 4th. Great results from such a young team! You brought honor and respect to Portland Christian!

ELEMENTARY SPORTS

Portland Christian Parents,

With the cold weather upon us, I want to shift your attention to Spring planning for a few minutes.

I love sports and the benefits it brings to our children and community. There are two spring sports that bring unique benefits, have very similar fundamentals, and are a historical part of American culture: Baseball and Softball.

We will focus on teaching the fundamentals of Baseball and Softball in a fun setting. We are planning to hold practices right after school at PCES starting in late March. Regular season games generally would be April through June. The cost will be determined by age and league (plus any online fees, fundraisers, or the cost of opting out of the fundraiser). We will field PC teams through Rockwood Junior Baseball for baseball and Gresham ASA for softball.

Rockwood Junior Baseball:
Preschool and Kindergarten: Co-Ed Boys and Girls “T-Ball” baseball $50
Grades 1st-2nd: “Farm” Co-Ed Boys and Girls baseball (coach pitch) $75
Grades 3rd-4th: “Midget” Boys baseball (player pitch) $95
Grades 5th-6th: “Junior” Boys baseball $95

Registration forms will be sent home in Friday folders next week. You will also be able to pick them up at the grade school office.

Portland Christian players will not attend Rockwood tryouts. Athletes in 3rd Grade and above will be advised of a date when we will do PC player evaluations for team placement. We anticipate having two “Midget” 3rd-4th Grade teams that will be divided based on performance and skill evaluations.

Gresham ASA Softball:
Age 9-10: ASA “10U” Girls softball $85
Age 11-12: ASA “12U” Girls softball $85

Registration forms will be sent home in Friday folders next week. You will also be able to pick them up at the grade school office.

Portland Christian players will not attend Gresham ASA tryouts.
