STATEMENT Of PURPOSE PORTLAND CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS ALUMNI AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION
Purpose:
The Portland Christian Schools Alumni and Friends Association exists to carry out the Mission and Purpose of the school and act as a support organization for this institution. By seeking and reaching out, it is the purpose of the Association to encourage, love and support our Alumni and all those who are and have been connected with the school.
Goals of the Association:
- To maintain and expand a working Alumni Board with members from as many classes as feasible and to schedule monthly meetings to which all alumni and friends of Portland Christian Schools are invited.
- To maintain an Alumni and Friends Advisory Committee which will meet annually to encourage and give advice to the Association Board. The committee members will receive monthly e-mailings of the Board minutes.
- To sponsor activities which serve to reconnect Alumni and friends of Portland Christian to the school. Activities will include Homecoming, Alumni Appreciation Week, and at least one All-years Reunion. Other activities may include a year-end faculty and staff appreciation function and any such activities as deemed appropriate by the Association Board and the Development Department.
- To encourage graduated classes to hold reunions beginning at the tenth year and every 5-10 years thereafter. When called upon, the Board will assist classes planning reunions, particularly the 25th and 50th year gatherings. Alumni and friends of Portland Christian Schools are also encouraged to attend the annual All-years Reunion.
- To maintain an up-to-date database for PCS Alumni and friends of the school making this information available for class reunions, mailings approved by the Board, and to facilitate reconnecting classmates.
- To develop timely communication with Alumni and friends of Portland Christian Schools through the school's website, e-mails, personal contacts, and special mailings as deemed appropriate.
- To publish a quarterly magazine, the REALS, to be mailed to all those listed in the database. The magazine will include news and notes from alumni and friends, as well as feature stories, general prayer requests such as for those in the military and those with long term illnesses, news and feature stories from each of the school campuses and any other news of general interest.
- To keep active files on each class including news, such as reunions, weddings, births, deaths, special honors, etc.
- To maintain and expand an Alumni and Friends Office housing historical records, miscellaneous paraphernalia, and to act as a clearinghouse for all Association activities and reunions.
- To work concurrently with the Development Office of Portland Christian Schools to develop a culture of philanthropy among the alumni and friends of the school.
