Portland Christian Schools graduating one of its largest classes in the last four years

Thirteen students will receive their Presidential Award for Educational Excellence and Senior Scholarship (GPA 3.9).

Of the 53 students, 17 have attended a Christian school since first grade.

When asked how attending a Christian school has impacted her Christian walk, senior Ailis Collins responds that her Bible teachers gave her sound evidence for her faith, explaining that “I have been able to defend and explain it to others while at PC.” Stephen Nguyen echoes Collins, “The theology/apologetics class has given me the skills to defend Christianity.”

Sandra Sy reflects, that by being part of a Christian community at PCS, “encouraged [me] to pray, worship and talk about God.” It helped her grow in her relationship with Christ, and “having genuine Christian friends [led] me closer to God giving me confidence in my faith.”

While it may have been difficult for some students to never have been in a large public school, Sy affirms her appreciation for PCS teachers, and “being able to get one on one help, and knowing that the teachers care for me means a lot.”  Avi Jannsen also points out that the teachers “help us reach our academic goals [and] our personal ones as well.”  Being at a small school is not without its drawbacks.  As Jannsen notes, “it’s a lot easier to get caught up in yourself . . . and easy to miss the big picture.”  But she acknowledges that “the constant support of the Bible teachers has usually been a light.”

Along with committed teachers and Biblical teaching, Samuel Nguyen shares that PCS has prepared him for the next stage in life saying that “most courses can be considered near the level of college ones.” Both he and his twin brother, Stephen, are the class co-valedictorians with identical GPAs of 4.180.  They are members of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta (Mathematics Honor Society). Together, they plan to attend University of Portland in the fall.

PCS promotes higher education in its curriculum.  To achieve this, students need a framework to help them succeed.  Ricky Maharaj, whose goal is to be an emergency room physician, describes his PCS experience academically, spiritually and socially in five words, “So, so, so much support.”

Congratulations, Class of 2018.  Welcome PCS Alumni, Class of 2018!
