Secular VS Christian Colleges
The following link is an article from Christianity Today that discusses the value of a Christian education (Click Here). I personally believe this article has some merit and should be prayerfully considered.
From my personal experience, the college years have a significant impact on a student’s future. Even with the most wonderful Christian families and positive formative growing up experiences, students have made choices during college that have led them away from their foundations. I believe the safety net of a Christian college will allow our students to face head-on the powerful temptations that independence and our culture throws at them.
If a Christian college is not an option, I suggest making sure that the college of choice has a strong Christian club or ministry and that there is a local church that the student can join for spiritual strength.

EARN COLLEGE CREDIT!
Portland Christian High School is pleased to announce a concurrent enrollment agreement that has been formed with Warner Pacific College.
The agreement, in summary, states that Portland Christian high school students who are enrolled in our AP (Advance Placement) courses have the opportunity to receive college credit if they earn an “A” or “B” in each AP course (5 courses are offered). Therefore, if a student is enrolled in AP Calculus for the school year and earns a final grade in June of an “A” or “B”, he/she will then have earned one semester’s worth of college credit at Warner Pacific College. The grade and credit will then be transcripted at Warner and the student then can either use that credit at Warner toward graduation or have it transferred to the student’s college of choice.
The cost will only be $65 per credit hour (typically $195 per 3 credit class) and will only be charged when the student has officially enrolled in the course for college credit. Enrollment will happen in the spring semester after the instructor and Warner Pacific are in agreement that the student is on track to successfully earn either an “A” or “B” in the course. Students can still take the AP exam late in the spring, if they desire.
This is an outstanding opportunity for our students to get a jump on college credits at a very reasonable price! For more details, contact Dr. Jones at Shawn.Jones@pcschools.org or 503-256-3960 ext.255.
AP: Advanced Placement exams are tied to our AP courses. High scores mean possible college credit for those courses. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/about.html>
CLEP: College Level Examination Program offers online exams covering many general education courses that can be tested out of by passing these exams. Local colleges offer these exams for a fee. The expense is comparable to the cost of a college textbook. In other words, if passed, a student will earn college credit for a fraction of the cost of a regular class. Practice exams are available at no charge. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html

Student Athletes and the NCAA
Student athletes considering playing sports at a Division I or II college will need to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. Students will also need to have ACT/SAT test scores and transcripts sent to the center as well. See the following link for further information.
https://web1.ncaa.org/eligibilitycenter/common/
Student athletes will need to monitor early on their GPA, core courses, and SAT/ACT scores to ensure that they are eligible to play for a Division I or II school. There are strict NCAA requirements that need to be met and a student cannot wait until their senior year to take these into consideration. The following webinar link is very helpful for all student athletes to review as early as the 9th grade. http://www.formstack.com/forms/?1125494-6Q12R0i03U
