2010 Portland Christian Varsity Womens Basketball.

The PC girls varsity team is really on a roll so far in 2010. Their current record stands at 21-0 with only a few league games left to play this season.

The team started with a tough pre-league schedule. The opponents were mostly from higher classification schools which really presented a challenge to the PC team.

PC opened the season on 12/4 at the Santiam Christian Tournament facing 3A Horizon Christian for the first game of the year. The girls won the opener 68-42 and then followed up with a last second win (51-50) over a top rated 3A team in Santiam Christian.

Next came a win (69-56) at 4A equivalent opponent Woodland Washington. The girls then traveled to 4A Gladstone to face what some felt would be the toughest game of the 2009 year for the Royals. The girls turned on a stifling defense to defeat Gladstone convincingly 65-33 in their own gym.

After defeating 3A Portland Adventist (68-38) the girls were finally ready for their first home game of the year. A well prepared Woodland team was all set for the Royal girls this time. PC finally won out with a last second basket to defeat Woodland for a second time (53-50) this season.

In their second home game of the year, PC hosted 5A Parkrose High School. A tough Royals defense and running game was too much for the Parkrose team in the 83-28 win for the PC girls.

Christmas time for PC basketball teams means the Salem Academy Tournament. Featuring a few of the better teams in the state, the SAC tournament is always a challenge. In the tournament opener and rematch of last year's class 2A 4th place game in Pendleton, PC defeated 2A Western Mennonite easily 87-15. After defeating 3A Valley Catholic 63-36, the Royal girls were once again matched up against 3A Santiam Christian. Perhaps with some players remembering a tough loss to Santiam Christian in last year's SAC tournament, the PC girls brought their game. This was a very physical game with lots of contact in the paint. In the their best performance so far in the season, the balanced PC offensive play won out with a well deserved 66-47 win. PC was once again the SAC tournament champion and ready to open league play.

Northwest League play opened with PC hosting Knappa High. The Royal girls set the tone for the rest of the league games with a solid 76-44 win. PC went on to defeat Nestucca (63-15), Corbett (81-27), Riverdale (78-14), Gaston (80-20), DeLaSalle (81-31), and Faith Bible (82-18) in the first round of league action. The second round of league games includes wins against Knappa (80-34), Nestucca (87-22), Corbett (94-31), and Riverdale (80-38).

The PC girls have won game after game with a smothering defense, teamwork, dazzling passes, and a balanced offensive attack. Some opponents have struggled to get the ball out of the backcourt while every one of the PC girls has shown their ability to make the offensive play.

Best wishes to the team for post season play as league play winds down. These girls are truly a blessed group of athletes and they play with intensity and courage that represents their school and faith well.
