Program Overview for Elementary Campus

Portland Christian Elementary School will provide your child a high-quality education in an environment that is nurturing, stimulating, and Christ-centered.

We encourage all of our students to achieve their potential in every facet of their experience—from academics, to extra-curricular activities, personal character and leadership skills.

Our goal is to ensure that every student learns and achieves academically and spiritually. We seek to honor God in our daily journey as our students learn to think and act in a Christ-like way. We do not put our faith aside; rather, it is our driving force. We are proud of our middle name!

Our 5-acre campus includes 4 classroom buildings. All of our classrooms are roomy and inviting. Our new Arts Building, dedicated in August, 2006, houses a state-of-the-art Computer Lab, a spacious Library, liberally-equipped Art and Music Studios, and several new classrooms.

Our gymnasium incorporates a climbing wall, as well as a basketball and volleyball court, and our fenced playground is outfitted with plenty of up-to-date play equipment.

Campus Hours
Kindergarten: 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
1st - 6th grades: 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Our faculty and staff are highly experienced and committed, preparing our students for secondary and higher education opportunities. Our secondary campus in northeast Portland allows students to remain in the same community from early childhood through high school graduation.

Students entering the 6th grade have the option of continuing at the elementary campus for "traditional" sixth grade, or transferring to the secondary campus for a "transitional" sixth grade experience.

We offer classes for all grades, taught by dedicated specialists, in the following areas:

  • Computer
  • Band
  • Art
  • Music
  • Library
  • Physical Education
In addition to receiving instruction in all the traditional academic subjects, such as Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, our students also study Bible and Scripture Memorization. All students attend weekly chapel services where they sing, pray, recite Scripture, and are exposed to Biblical truths through a wide variety of speakers and programs. Classes also take curriculum centered field trips several times a year, to experience learning opportunities outside the classroom.

Our students are able to "be children" in an ever moving, "hurried" society. The students have access to a large gymnasium and playground. They are encouraged to play, imagine, create, and interact with their peers in healthy, uplifting ways.

Before school care is available beginning at 6:30 a.m., with after care until 6:00 p.m. Summer care is also offered for elementary children through Portland Christian's Early Childhood Program.

At Portland Christian, parents are full partners in their children's education. Family involvement is encouraged at all levels, from helping in the classroom, to chaperoning field trips, to serving on policy-making committees and boards.

Portland Christian Elementary is a non-denominational Christian school. We are registered with the state of Oregon and employ Oregon credentialed faculty.

We are located just minutes from I-205 and I-84. Our campus is easily accessible off NE 122nd Avenue and Market Street in Portland.
