Libraries allow children to ask questions about the world and find the answers.

  • The largest library in the world is The Library of Congress, with more than 158 million items on approximately 838 miles of bookshelves.
  • There are 17,000 public libraries (including branches) in the United States. That’s more than Starbucks coffee shops.
  • The Guinness Book of World Records holds the record for being the book most often stolen from public libraries.

 

DID YOU KNOW?

Portland Christian libraries:

  • Have more than 100 eBook resources.
  • Have a subscription to World Book Online for all grade levels. User ID and passwords are available in the libraries.
  • Provide free access to thousands of reliable information resources (such as magazines, newspapers, journals, encyclopedias, e-books, and multimedia content) in one location through the OSLIS databases.
  • Provide access to LearningExpress Library (LEL), a test-preparation resource that is available through OSLIS at no cost to the Oregon K-12 community. Among other things, LEL offers materials to help students prepare for AP, SAT, ACT, and TOEFL exams.
