Coach Rich Remsburg Honored by PCS Athletic Department

On February 13, 2020, Athletic Director Kyle Cowan was pleased to share the following with the community during a special recognition ceremony at a PC home game.

“Rich has decided that the 2019-2020 season will be his last coaching here after 42 years on the sideline of PCS basketball. Here are just a few things that Rich has done for PC athletics.

He began coaching in 1966 as an assistant for two years with the boys basketball program. In the 1968-69 season Rich began as the head coach and also as the school’s Athletic Director (AD). Virtually every sport we offer at Portland Christian began under Coach Remsburg’s tenure as AD. As the head coach, Rich’s basketball teams earned a total of 537 wins. This placed him as the 14th winningest coach in Oregon history.

Rich spent 35 years as the head coach of PC basketball until 2003 when he began working in the athletic department at Warner Pacific College.

In 2015, when I was fortunate to be the boys basketball coach at Portland Christian, Rich was my first phone call. Over a nice lunch at Olive Garden on Rich’s birthday, he agreed to come back to PC to help me coach and once again be a part of the PC sidelines. Rich has graciously been a part of the PC community for another five seasons.

After 42 years of sitting in bleachers, riding the bus, and working with high school young men, he has decided to retire.

As John Wooden said, “A good coach can change a game, a great coach will change a life.” Rich’s impact on the Portland Christian community is far reaching. He has former players in nearly every state of the country - men who have grown to be great husbands, fathers, employers and employees. And most importantly because of the impact Rich has had on their lives, they are great men of God.

Thank you Rich for your dedication to basketball, Portland Christian, and most importantly, answering God’s call to impact young men through basketball.”
