Est-ce que vous parlez français?

Rachel Humphrey, French teacher shares some exciting news!

Teaching languages is very important to us at PC.  We have been delighted to offer Spanish and Latin for a number of years, and to have reintroduced French after a hiatus of a few years.  My French I class has been so much fun this year and I was thrilled that even during this time of distance learning, half my French class was willing to participate in Le Grand Concours from home.  The National French Contest/Le Grand Concours is an annual competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French.

Students of French in grades 1-12, in all 50 states and abroad, take a written test and compete against students with similar educational backgrounds for prizes.  Grades 1-6 participate in the FLES Contest, while grades 7-12 take the Secondary Contest.  My students took the Level 1 test online, proctored over Zoom, with the following results:

Gold Award

Hung Le - ranked 3rd nationally (12th grade)
Anna Humphrey - ranked 5th nationally (9th grade)

Silver Award

Jacquelyn Nguyen (9th grade)

Bronze Award

Rebecca Barnes (10th grade)
Sienna Liljenwall (10th grade)
Emma Zallee (12th grade)

Mention d'honneur

Daniel Humphrey (12th grade)
Caleb Orella (12th grade)
Jennifer Tran (9th grade)
