Called to Love

June 8, 2020

The last few weeks have been difficult.  Our hearts are broken for those in the Black community who have been marginalized and abused for far too long.  The deaths of George Floyd, and so many others, are unacceptable. Every follower of Jesus who watches that horrifying video is overwhelmed with pain and sorrow.  We are reminded that Jesus came to defeat sin and death and yet we continue to wait for the ultimate fulfillment of that promise.

It is the mission of Portland Christian to educate each student in light of His truth.  We are called, and convicted in this moment, to help each student experience that transformation to have their minds renewed by the truth revealed in Jesus.  He died for all.  He lives for all.  He will restore all things.

To that end, we are committed to working toward abolishing racism, bigotry, and hatred.  These destructive and sinful practices have no place in our community.  We desire to create a safe, loving, and supportive environment for all of our students and ask that you join us in praying that we, as a community, will reflect the love of Jesus.  Join us in our mission to present the truth of God’s Word and to empower our students to become the leaders the world needs—who work to proclaim the peace of Jesus and extend His healing power to the broken-hearted.

We pray that our efforts will fulfill the call of Jesus and we will soon hear Him proclaim:  “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.  For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” (Matthew 25:34-36).
