Politics and Theology

Winter 2020

Johnny Humphrey (2018)

Johnny Humphrey, class of 2018, visited the Jr/Sr High School campus during his Christmas break from Wheaton College, Illinois.  He was the guest speaker at a combined chapel on January 9th.

Humphrey has chosen to double major in Political Science and Bible & Theology. He attributes this choice to the impact of classes he had here at PCS.  When he took AP Government with Mr. Jon Roberts, he found it gave him a deeper perspective on politics.  PCS Bible classes gave him a personal frame of reference and deepened his interest in further Biblical and theological study. Wheaton, as a premier Christian college, offered the opportunity to further his studies in these fields while providing the fundamentals to stay rooted in his faith and principles.

During the summer of 2019, Humphrey spent 11 weeks as an intern at St. Helen’s Bishopsgate, an evangelical church in London, England.  While in London, he also worked on “Bishop of Truro’s Independent Review for the Foreign Secretary of FCO Support for Persecuted Christians” (https://christianpersecutionreview.org.uk/)  (FCO is an abbreviation of Foreign & Commonwealth Office).  One of Humphrey’s responsibilities was to review and cross check 800 citations. PCS English teachers should be proud of his accomplishment in successfully completing this task!!!

So far, Humphrey’s favorite classes at Wheaton have been “Introduction to International Politics”, “Biblical Interpretation in Hermeneutics”, and “Theology in Art.”  These classes have opened his eyes to new perspectives and themes.  PCS is proud to see alum Johnny Humphrey venture so far afield!
