Our High School Teams Have Heart, and Strength

This year Portland Christian is playing in the 2A Northwest League after playing for the last four years in the Lewis and Clark League at 3A.

Portland Christian Football has a young team this year but have shown heart on the field. Offensively, Sakari Haynes, a sophomore, has 467 yds, 25 catches, seven touchdowns. Defensively, Jesse Lortz, a senior, has 73 total tackles, one sack, one interception. Royals Football is coached by Jon Roberts and assisted by Andrew Jannsen and Nathan Rowlett.

Football team


This year’s Girls Soccer team has had an outstanding year so far. They are ranked 6th overall with 7-0-2 record. Journie Conard, a junior, one of the teams’ captains has had two assists so far this season.  Carly Brunner, a sophomore, has scored four goals and had three assists so far this season.  Royals Girls Soccer is coached by Emily Anderson and assisted by Marena Farmer.

Girls Soccer


Portland Christian’s Boys Soccer team is the 3rd highest scoring team in all of 1A, 2A, and 3A with 53 goals altogether in only eight games. Royals Boys Soccer is coached by Matt Scholer and assisted by Marquis Taylor.

Boys Soccer team


Royals Volleyball is sure to make state this year. The team is ranked 7th overall with a record of 16-3. Senior middle blocker, Simone Gordon, has put up 11 and 16 kills respectively in the last two league games. She was just named to the list of one of the middle blockers in the state to watch. Gordon is looking forward to this final high school season and entertaining offers to play in college. Junior, Maddy Files, is our stand out libero. Files had a tremendous game against Santiam Christian to bring us a 3-1 win against a very tough 3A team. She owns the back row, playing amazing defense and being our focal point on serve receive and is expected to get quite a bit of attention this season, and next with her exemplary skill and leadership on the court. Royals Volleyball is coached by Kristina Gore and assisted by Jason Hubert and Hannah Antal.

Update as of October 17, 2018:  The volleyball team is now in league playoffs and has won their first match!!!
