Come To Our "Perfect" School!

This book sets a utopian society and a dystopian society in close proximity so that the reader can question whether or not the "perfect" society is possible in a world run by broken beings. The "Create a School" project gives students the chance to create the "perfect" world using a school as their context.

The students then make a sales presentation to an authentic middle school audience and discuss what makes their schools appealing and "perfect." This project allows the students to problem solve for issues they see in an education setting, gives them a platform to practice presentation skills, and allows them to see that it is difficult to fabricate perfection while appealing to the majority. Each group is to come up with a school handbook and must answer impromptu questions from their audience.

This year, the voted favorite was: The Draco School for the Highly Intelligent. This school was created by Simone Gordon, Mary Helgerson, and Braden McClelland. Their hard work, and details about the campus being sponsored by Gucci and Gordon Ramsey, won the crowd vote.

Some students even asked if these were "real schools" that they could apply for in the future!

The Malibu School of Sports and Artis Scholae were great contenders as well.

Well done to all, and a special thank you to Mrs. Schroder's 6th grade Math class, and Mrs. Thornton's 7th grade Social Studies class, for attending and voting. We are so grateful for your enthusiasm!
