Learning Together

"I believe God is going to take care of us as we respond in faith . . . as we have the hope and the optimism not based upon human beings . . .  but because God is faithful.  And at the end of this entire year, we're going to say, 'Man, that was hard work, but look at what God did.'  I believe that, and I claim it in faith."
~ Troy Wagner, Jr/Sr High School Principal
"From a parent perspective, a huge thanks to all the teachers and administrators for your awesome efforts to get this year, fall 2020, off on a positive note. Praying for each of you that even in not optimal circumstances, God uses you all to impact the lives of these amazing students."
~ Patti & Scott Stumetz, PCS parents

We may currently be separated by space but we are united in purpose, in spirit, and in faith. With the Lord’s help we will meet this COVID-19 challenge and we will be stronger, smarter, better people when we once again meet together in the same space. Click the arrows below to learn more about how the Portland Christian Schools programs are meeting the COVID challenge.

Preschool and School Age Care

Portland Christian StudentsPortland Christian is licensed by the Oregon Early Learning Division as an Emergency Childcare Provider. While priority is given to Essential Workers, PCS has sufficient capacity to offer services to many other families as well.

PCS abides by all government mandates and public health protocols. Our guidance for preschool and childcare comes from the Early Learning Division of the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority.  The children that are in our program have adapted beautifully to the COVID-19 safeguards that we’ve put in place!

If a possible or confirmed COVID-19 case should occur, we will follow Oregon Health Authority guidance regarding health monitoring, exclusion, recordkeeping, and notification. We will keep our families fully informed to the extent possible within the guidelines current at the time.

School Age Care for Kindergarten – 5th grade

Portland Christian StudentsPCS offers School Age Care for children in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. The program is led by qualified teachers who support students in their digital learning classes, whether they are enrolled at PCS or elsewhere. This is an ideal option for those who can’t be at home during the day to supervise their child’s distance learning.

PCS School Age Care is available on a monthly basis as a partial day (up to 6 hours a day) or full day (more than 6 hours a day).   See the rates for both options.

All School Age Care sessions follow state and health authority guidelines regarding cohorting and all other COVID-19-prevention and screening requirements.  Sessions are offered from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.  Breakfast, snacks, and hot lunch are provided.

Kindergarten - 12th Grade

Kindergarten - 12th Grade Academic Programs

Portland Christian Students Doing SciencePortland Christian Schools currently offers a  hybrid of comprehensive distance learning and limited in-person Instruction for all of our K - 12 students. We are ready to add full time on-site learning as soon as restrictions are lifted, along  with continued optional distance learning. We are so anxious to welcome students back to our campuses full time!

Comprehensive distance learning at PCS includes both synchronous and asynchronous components. Teachers interact with students via Google Classroom.  Full class group sessions, small group break-out sessions, and individual interactions are all components of the distance learning experience.

Portland Christian junior high students plants projectOn-campus limited in-person instruction opportunities are offered several days each week.  Some of the activities students are able to participate in during this time include academic tutoring, science experiments, art projects, drama rehearsals, music class, and even just some fun times with classmates and friends.  The Kinders even got a Pumpkin Patch “field trip” right on campus. Some students participate in these on-campus activities virtually – technology allows students to participate from the safety of their homes – no one needs to be left out!

All COVID-19 protocols for health and wellness are observed when students come to campus, including use of hand sanitizing stations, non-toxic disinfectants, personal protective equipment for staff and students over age 5, cohorting, restrictions on campus visitors, physical distancing, symptom screening, and frequent cleaning procedures.

Kindergarten - 12th Grade Extra-Curricular Activities

Portland Christian Students at Soccer DrillPCS usually offers athletics and activities for students in elementary, junior high, and high school. Junior high athletics and activities are expected to follow soon thereafter. You can see the latest updates from OSAA here. PCS students have been training to the extent permitted and will participate in competitions this spring as the guidance allows. Plans are in place for PCS students to compete in the following activities:

  • Soccer
  • Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Golf
  • Track and Field
  • Concert Choir & Band

The Parents' Perspective
We're so grateful for all of the work the principals and teachers have done! So impressed! We appreciate all of the academic content, but even more so the connection to people and to normalcy. One of my favorite things about PC is the way teachers love my kids and I have seen that this week. Our teachers have spent so much time with just my family; figuring out technical issues, checking in on us, making accommodations. Hearing teachers pray over kids on Zoom makes me tear-up every time. Thank you for your dedication!
Thank you for everything the staff have done to respond to this challenging situation. We are proud to be part of the PC family and grateful for your efforts to continue to provide excellent education for our girls. I'm sure these last few weeks have been challenging in many different ways. A sincere thank you!
Thank you for your amazing work with our kids through these difficult times! I am blown away at how all of you have been able to transition to this distance learning so seamlessly and with such quality! We think it has been wonderful and are so thankful! Not only have our kids not lost in their education but they are progressing, when we see other schools that are stagnant around us! Also, to have teachers speaking Christ and his promises into them during this time means the world! What a blessing PC has been!
Thank you so much!  I can't even imagine how hard the principals and PCS staff are working and have been working and will continue to work.  You are all amazing!
We are so appreciative of all the efforts the teachers and administration have put into creating an entirely new way to engage students.  Thank you so much for finding new processes for students to effectively "distance learn."  The level of care, patience, and kindness the teachers are showing their students has never been higher which is remarkable and awe-inspiring to see in such an unprecedented environment using tools they've never had before.  We are so grateful this season isn't just "online learning" with a faceless teacher and computer-based training; PCS has created a safe space where the relationships, laughter, and caring remain just as much a part of learning as it was before.
Thank you for working so hard around the clock to continue building such a strong sense of community in the midst of such uncertainty.
Thank you too for your unending patience with all us parents slow to get the hang of Google Classroom.  We're all on a steep learning curve and we're so grateful that we're in it together with you leading the charge.  Keep up the outstanding work and as always please let us know how we can help and support you the best way possible.
We have been so impressed and grateful for the awesome distance learning program our son's teacher has prepared. She has gone above and beyond communicating with us and with him, and we have felt so supported. The curriculum and work-load have been just the right level of challenging.
