We may currently be separated by space but we are united in purpose, in spirit, and in faith. With the Lord’s help we will meet this COVID-19 challenge and we will be stronger, smarter, better people when we once again meet together in the same space. Click the arrows below to learn more about how the Portland Christian Schools programs are meeting the COVID challenge.
Portland Christian is licensed by the Oregon Early Learning Division as an Emergency Childcare Provider. While priority is given to Essential Workers, PCS has sufficient capacity to offer services to many other families as well.
PCS abides by all government mandates and public health protocols. Our guidance for preschool and childcare comes from the Early Learning Division of the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority. The children that are in our program have adapted beautifully to the COVID-19 safeguards that we’ve put in place!
If a possible or confirmed COVID-19 case should occur, we will follow Oregon Health Authority guidance regarding health monitoring, exclusion, recordkeeping, and notification. We will keep our families fully informed to the extent possible within the guidelines current at the time.
PCS Preschool is available as a half day (8:30 am – 11:15 am) or full day (7:30 am – 5:30 pm) option. See the rates for both options.
Here are a few things you can expect when you enroll your child at PCS Preschool:
PCS offers School Age Care for children in Kindergarten through 5th Grade. The program is led by qualified teachers who support students in their digital learning classes, whether they are enrolled at PCS or elsewhere. This is an ideal option for those who can’t be at home during the day to supervise their child’s distance learning.
PCS School Age Care is available on a monthly basis as a partial day (up to 6 hours a day) or full day (more than 6 hours a day). See the rates for both options.
All School Age Care sessions follow state and health authority guidelines regarding cohorting and all other COVID-19-prevention and screening requirements. Sessions are offered from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Breakfast, snacks, and hot lunch are provided.
Portland Christian Schools currently offers a hybrid of comprehensive distance learning and limited in-person Instruction for all of our K - 12 students. We are ready to add full time on-site learning as soon as restrictions are lifted, along with continued optional distance learning. We are so anxious to welcome students back to our campuses full time!
Comprehensive distance learning at PCS includes both synchronous and asynchronous components. Teachers interact with students via Google Classroom. Full class group sessions, small group break-out sessions, and individual interactions are all components of the distance learning experience.
On-campus limited in-person instruction opportunities are offered several days each week. Some of the activities students are able to participate in during this time include academic tutoring, science experiments, art projects, drama rehearsals, music class, and even just some fun times with classmates and friends. The Kinders even got a Pumpkin Patch “field trip” right on campus. Some students participate in these on-campus activities virtually – technology allows students to participate from the safety of their homes – no one needs to be left out!
All COVID-19 protocols for health and wellness are observed when students come to campus, including use of hand sanitizing stations, non-toxic disinfectants, personal protective equipment for staff and students over age 5, cohorting, restrictions on campus visitors, physical distancing, symptom screening, and frequent cleaning procedures.
PCS usually offers athletics and activities for students in elementary, junior high, and high school. In this very unusual year, the athletics and activities schedules have been disrupted. The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) has published a plan to begin resuming high school athletic competitions and other activities with shortened seasons beginning in December 2020. Junior high athletics and activities are expected to follow soon thereafter. You can see the latest updates from OSAA here. PCS students have been training to the extent permitted and will participate in competitions this spring as the guidance allows. Plans are in place for PCS students to compete in the following activities:
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic the PCS Board of Trustees, after prayerfully considering the purpose of the school and the needs of our community, has reduced tuition for the 2020-21 school year. See our discounted tuition rates.
