In this excerpt, International Student Speaker John Choi shares during the 2018 PCS Commencement Ceremony, the uniqueness of his experience at PCS.

All across the United States there are about 1.2 million international students spread out in all 50 states.  Some step foot in this country not knowing a single word of English while others are close to being fluent. Regardless, it is not easy to adjust to a life abroad, away from your home, not being able to speak with anyone else. It's really intimidating. Think about how some of you would feel if you were sitting in a classroom in China, or Korea, or India. Things might get awkward.  Just telling you. The sense of intimidation that comes from being unable to communicate freely and the cultural differences that exist makes one feel powerless, and that affects hundreds of thousands of international students all over the world. Not at Portland Christian though.  At PC, there are more than enough resources for integration into mainstream courses and establishment in a firm English background so that international students can take whatever courses they want as soon as possible. Also, the students and staff here are kind and respectful to not only international students but to everybody on campus. The tight-knit family-like environment of the school always makes me and my friends feel welcomed and loved. And that is what puts Portland Christian's International Student Program far above that of other institutions. That is why I am proud that I was a part of this community. So to everyone at PC, thank you for making me, thank you for making us feel so included and at home.  Thanks to you, not only the 19 of us but all 54 graduates are able to further our purpose in this world after today.  Some of us will work, others will go to college. But we'll always have you in our minds. We'll be spread across, across the globe, sorry, but we will always have God in our hearts and the fundamental education you provided in our minds.  As we take on adult responsibilities in the real world, we will never forget you. We will always miss you. We love you. Thank you.
