This video was presented at PCS Royal Auction & Gala 2019 "A Million Dreams Fulfilled." Rhonda Rogers, superintendent addresses the technology need, Sherri James, Jr/Sr High School principal, the campus security, and Brooke Gray PCS alumnus shares the impact PCS made on her life, and how she is in turn, impacting other lives.

My name is Rhonda Rogers and I'm the superintendent here at Portland Christian Schools. My dream for Portland Christian is that we have technology that's reliable and that it works each and every day. You know, one of the needs as you can all relate to is when the Wi-Fi's down, learning stops. We do not want to have those interruptions. At Portland Christian we've struggled with that. And so we really want top-of-the-line Wi-Fi connections here for our students. We want to have that so that learning can continue to happen on a regular basis as we know technology is so critical in transforming how we teach in the classroom; that we are able to keep kids engaged to learn and see the world in ways that we've never done that before here at Portland Christian. We want to empower our kids to do that. We also recognize the importance of teaching our kids digital citizenship. It's one thing to have a device it's another to know how to use it responsibly and correctly. And so we spend a lot of time here at Portland Christian showing kids just how to use technology in a godly way. My name is Sherri James and I am the principal here at Portland Christian Jr/Sr High School. We already provide a safe learning environment here at Portland Christian for our students so that they are able to learn each day. We of course want to continue to look for ways that we can improve and enhance that. Some ways that we've done that here at Portland Christian are by installing the monitoring systems that we have: interior and exterior cameras. We upgraded the lighting on the exterior of our building. And we have done some things here at the school with building relationships with our Portland police, and our local fire department and had them come through and meet with our staff and our students to ensure that everyone understands what a safe environment looks like. We have identified one area for improvement at Portland Christian on the secondary campus and that's in the area of our security system. Over the years we've added various zones of the school. So we have the gymnasium, we have the business office, we have computer labs. And each of those are on separate zone systems - different programs running those. And so we need to bring them all together into one unified system for monitoring and making sure that we have security in place here as one united system. Doing so will lay the foundation for providing that safe environment for our students and staff here each and every day. Maintaining and improving our campus as a safe environment will lead to bring in more families. It'll be a place where our staff and our students want to work and be each and every day. I do hope and I dream for a time when we have more students that quality staff remains here and it's a place where the word of God is taught so that students' lives will be forever impacted and changed. My name is Brooke Gray and I am an alumni of Portland Christian. I started in second grade and went all the way through high school and graduated in 2003. There are really two specific things that Portland Christian's education did for me. The first is that it really taught me how my faith would apply to the world. Both how it would apply to culture, pop culture to current events to literature, took it beyond what the Bible would teach and moved into how that could be applied in my daily walk. The second thing it did though is that I had teachers that called me to more. That saw who I was as an individual, what I was capable of and what the spirit wanted to do in my life and called that out in me and provided ways for me to explore what that might be and gave me opportunities to thrive and ultimately to become the person that I am today. I am the executive director of a nonprofit effort here in the state of Oregon called Every Child Oregon that invites the community to get engaged with the foster care system in some capacity. We have a network of nonprofit organizations that we work with across the state and here in Portland it's called Embrace Oregon. I met my husband on the first day of 7th grade at Portland Christian High School in the hallway and had an interaction with him in geography class. After attending Portland Christian all through high school we started dating the very end of our senior year. We've been together for 16 years at this point, married for 12. So I have Portland Christian to thank for that as well. My husband and I are foster parents and so we see families that are really struggling in the community and don't have the kind of support that I was so privileged to receive. And so my dream for Portland Christian Schools is that anyone in the community that wanted to attend would be able to. Thank you so much for your support of Portland Christian Schools. Thank you.
