Lydia Mumford, Class of 2018

It’s always a joy to welcome back PC graduates as members of our teaching faculty! Lydia Mumford, Class of 2018, brings a deep sense of familiarity and passion for our community. She attended Portland Christian from preschool through 12th grade. Her years as a student across both campuses give her a unique perspective and connection to the PC family.

Special PC Memories

From 7th through 12th grade, Lydia was involved in the spring musical productions, with her favorite being Peter Pan. She also participated in two fall plays, including Murder Me Always in 2016—a show made extra special because her artwork was chosen as the official promotional poster! Some of her favorite classes were Latin with Mrs. Humphrey and Art class with Mrs. Whitley, both who fueled her creativity and love for learning.

Favorite PC Teacher

“Rachel Humphrey was always so positive and encouraging,” Lydia shared. “Her classroom was a safe space for me when I felt overwhelmed or was struggling. I loved her passion for Jesus -she taught me to appreciate history and to always see the cup as half full.”

Life After Graduation

After graduating from PC in 2018, Lydia spent six months at Capernwray Hall in England studying the Bible. She then attended Corban University, where she earned her degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Biblical Studies. “I love studying the Bible and learning more about it,” she said, a passion that continues to shape her teaching and faith today.

Returning to PC as an Adult

“It’s so fun and a little strange,” Lydia admits, “Some of my students are connected to people I knew from my time at PC, and now I get to work alongside some of my former teachers!”

PC Family Connections

Lydia’s PC roots run deep – both of her brothers also attended Portland Christian – Steven (class of 2014) and Nathan who attended PC until 2014.

Lydia’s journey from preschool student to faculty member is a wonderful reminder of the lasting impact of a Portland Christian education. We’re grateful to have her back in the classroom, now shaping the next generation of Royals with the same love for learning and faith that inspired her as a student. 💜
