STEADFAST!
“Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!” – Psalm 115:1
Each year, the Student Spiritual Life (SSL) team at Portland Christian Middle & High School selects a theme verse to guide chapels, activities, and spiritual growth opportunities. For the 2025 school year, their chosen theme is STEADFAST.
This theme has come to life during Spiritual Emphasis Week. “There’s not a lot of schools that get to have a specific week dedicated to spending time with the Lord and worshipping Him,” shares Payton Becker at the opening chapel. Over the course of the week, students gather daily for worship and teaching that focuses on steadfastness. Chapels feature student speakers reflecting on Scripture, small group gatherings, and playing Capture the Flag, with all the activities centering on celebrating the gift of community together.
The SSL team is made up of ten students who serve alongside their advisors, Principal Banducci and Bible teacher Mrs. Humphrey. Their shared goal is to help middle and high school students grow in their relationship with God. This semester, they are encouraging their peers to consider three important aspects of steadfastness:
- The steadfast character of God.
- Living a steadfast Christian walk.
- Being steadfast in community.
From looking inward at how God’s love anchors their faith to looking outward toward building one another up, the team invites students to experience the fullness of what it means to remain steadfast. As SSL team member Noah Humphrey explains, “We want to better understand God’s love and make Him the foundation of our faith.”
The leadership of the SSL team has been instrumental in shaping Spiritual Emphasis Week, and they will continue to guide chapels and activities throughout this semester. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to pointing their peers toward Christ.
Several eighth grade students found the chapels to be “uplifting”, “empowering”, and connected with them on a personal level.
Pray with the SSL team – that students will encounter God’s steadfastness in personal and transformative ways, be strengthened by the power of the Holy Spirit, and grow ever closer to our Heavenly Father.
