Spring Sports Wrap-Up

Head Coach Andrew Jannsen reports the following:

The 2019 high school track season has been a very successful endeavor. In league competition the girls’ team also had a great season. On the strength of 8 event championships and 14 top 3 finishes, the girls won the district meet claiming the league championship with a dominating 30 point victory. Their season culminated at the state meet with seven girls qualifying, and the team taking home sixth place and three individual event championships. The boys’ team also had a strong season in league competition. They battled well producing four league champion finishes and two second places. The boys took nine athletes to state where they performed well, finishing in 13th place out of the entire state.

On the boys side PC had some great individual athletes that contributed to the team success. Receiving first team all-league honors and qualifying for state were Garet Wisenbaker, Kyle Wicklander, and Blake Mazurowski. Both the 4x100m and the 4x400m relays qualified adding Zach Cummins, Titan Takahata, Brad Antal, Jacob Babalai, Ashton Bautista, and Luke Lehman to the list of state athletes. At state, Garet became the “fastest man in 2A” by winning the 100m dash and earning all-state honors. Blake Mazurowski also medaled in the high hurdles and the 4x400m relay team of Brad Antal, Luke Lehman, Zach Cummins, and Garet Wisenbaker earned a medal with their 4th place finish.

The girls’ team also had plenty of great athletes and performances. Those who were league champions, first team all-league, and qualified for state were Jessica Lai, Kathryn Nyone, and Carly Brunner. Both the 4x100m and the 4x400m relays were league champions adding Madi DeLucia, Olivia Stumetz, Yu Okano, Peyton Setser, and Danielle Tsague to the list of state athletes. At the state meet Kathryn Nyone won the state championship and was named all-state in the long jump and triple jump. Jessica Lai also became state champion and received all-state recognition in the pole vault. In addition, the girls’ 4x400m relay team of Carly Brunner, Olivia Stumetz, Madi DeLucia, and Kathryn Nyone earned medals with their 5th place finish.

The teams’ greatest success came when we received compliments from people in regards to the attitude and character of our track athletes.

Both track teams finished the race strong, honored the Lord with a great season, and fulfilled our goal of being a blessing to all.

From Coach Jesse DeLucia, “We had a great junior high track season. Many athletes competed for their first time and they made tremendous improvements. I enjoyed coaching each and every athlete. They all were full of energy and enthusiasm! We had many athletes qualify for the district track meet which was very exciting. Notable district competitors include DJ Scott who finished 2nd in the discus and Olivia Fowlkes who finished 2nd in the shot put. This team performed great this year and they have a lot of potential for the future.”

From Coach Trevor Mueller, “This baseball season was a year of success and learning opportunities. The baseball took a step forward in going from 5 wins the previous year, to 12 wins finishing fourth the Northwest league. The new additions of catching coach Ben Koerner, infield/outfield coach Kyle Wilson, and pitching coach Sam Cassel payed dividends on individual improvement by all players. Halfway through the year Aidan Perry joined and brought his energy and expertise to the outfielders.

The players bought into the system of quality at bats that manufactured runs through productive outs and sacrifice. Another important aspect that led to the success is the cohesion of the defense, not only did the team commit less errors, they moved as a group to back up their teammates which limited mistakes. Because of the commitment to both sides of the game PC baseball had a +44 run differential, the best in 5 years!”

Congratulations to the All League players!

PC golf had a great spring season!  With Coach Kuhnau, the team started last year with two golfers and grew to seven golfers this season!  All of our golfers improved throughout the season and our Varsity team took 3rd place in the State preview held at Emerald Valley Golf Course in Eugene.

Kameron Gomez won the District Tournament and qualified as an individual for the State tournament, eventually placing 6th.  We ended our season with a team celebration at Top Golf!
