Gratulationes illis qui praemia in certamenem Latinum meruerunt!

April 27, 2023

Last month, PCS Latin students sat for the annual National Latin Exam (NLE) “a test given annually to Latin students across the United States and around the world. The NLE is not meant to be a competition but rather an opportunity for students to receive reinforcement and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom. Depending upon their score, students may earn certificates, medals, and may even qualify for scholarships.” (nle.org)

Latin teacher, Mrs. Rachel Humphrey shares with the school, “Although not all my students got awards, they all worked really hard and their knowledge of and proficiency in Latin has improved dramatically over the course of the year.  I am very proud of them all!”

Latin III students: Caden Schroder (12th grade), Nehemiah Vice (10th grade)

Latin 1 students: Susan Asaya (11th grade), William Loffink (10th grade), Sarah Zallee (9th grade)

Silver Medal (maxima cum laude – with very great praise)

Latin 1 student: Emery Nunn (8th grade)

Magna Cum Laude (with great distinction)

Latin III student: Conall McClelland (12th grade)

Latin 1 student: Cole Quatela (8th grade)

For Caden, this gold medal in the Latin exam is a “fantastic” feeling as this is his first gold after three years of Latin. He received silver medals in 2021 and 2022, missing the gold by one point.

Senior Conall says he's sad for the last year of Latin, "this award is good."  And for first timer to the National Latin Exam, 10th grader Nehemiah says he “feels good” about the results.

No matter which language our students choose in the PCS offerings, we are thrilled for the opportunities and commitment our students and teachers bring to their classes!
