Staff Spotlight: Molly Roy

Mrs. Roy

Why did you choose to work at Portland Christian?

I had been interested in working as an EA (educational assistant) full time, while simultaneously looking at Portland Christian as a possible school for my daughter to attend. A friend from church let me know one day that there was a position open on the student support team at PC elementary! I applied and feel so blessed every day to be here, and my daughter loves it, too!

What do you enjoy most about working at Portland Christian?

My job is different every day. I get to work with students and teachers throughout the school. What I enjoy most is the relationships I’ve gained. I love seeing moments of kindness between students at recess, and the funny things they say and do on the playground.

Why did you choose your specific area of work?

As an educational assistant, I get to work with individual students and small groups. I love being able to connect with kids and give them extra attention that hopefully helps them be more successful at school.

What’s the best thing about working with students?

Seeing kids achieving their personal goals is always inspiring. When I feel like I’ve helped them along the way it is tremendously rewarding.

What is your favorite part of the school day?

My favorite part of the day is first thing in the morning. I like greeting the students, still looking sleepy, as they arrive.

How have you experienced God at PCS?

I can look back on my life and see how God has used my interests, skills and experiences to bring me to this position and this chapter in my life. I feel humbled and honored to be used to do His work in student support.

Favorite scripture verse?

Job 19:25-27: “I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!”

Tell us a little about your family, please!

My husband, Jason, is a gifted home remodeler. He owns the company Craftworks. Our daughter, Fiona, is in sixth grade. She’s a writer, artist, and avid gamer. We have two cats, Toki and Freya.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I am usually painting, knitting, crafting, baking, or taking long neighborhood walks, stopping to pet every cat or dog I meet.

Tell us something the students don't know about you

I once mistook a skunk for a cat when I was 17. He sprayed me when I tried to pet him. It was awful, and awfully funny.
