Teacher Feature: Rebekah Bettle

Mrs. Bettle

Why did you choose to work at Portland Christian?

Working at Portland Christian was an answer to prayer. My prayer while looking for a job was that wherever God chose for me to be, I would be able to send my daughter to PC.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Portland Christian?

My favorite thing about PC is the atmosphere. My first day of work we gathered as a staff and faculty from both campuses and prayed together. I felt at home.

Why did you choose your specific area of teaching?

I have wanted to teach math since I was in 7th grade. Teaching science was originally not in the plan. Now I get to teach both, I love it and would not change a thing.

What’s the best thing about being a teacher and working with students?

As a teacher, my favorite part of teaching is sharing my passions. I love math and I love science. I know not all students appreciate math or science, but I get to show the amazing things that God created to them.

What is your favorite part of the school day?

My favorite part of a school day is sharing my passion for creation. I sort of geek out a little.

How have you experienced God at PCS?

In teaching the place I see God the most is in the unknown answers. When the students come to me with questions I am honest with my Biblical beliefs and we look for answers together.

Favorite scripture verse?

Jeremiah 31:37: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done,’ declares the Lord.”

Tell us a little about your family, please!

My husband Robert and I have two children both attending PC. Lois is in 5th grade and Joseph is in Preschool.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I enjoy watching movies and playing board or card games with my family.

Tell us something the students don't know about you:

I love to ride horses. I spent the better part of 4 summers teaching crafts and horseback riding.
