Why did you choose to work at Portland Christian?

I wanted to work at Portland Christian to be with my three sons through their junior high and high school years. I have enjoyed being at their drama productions, sporting events, and assemblies.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Portland Christian?

My most favorite thing about teaching at Portland Christian is my colleagues. They will laugh with me, cry with me, and most of all pray with me.

Why did you choose your specific area of teaching?

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I remember in third grade creating a poster of my future career and it was of me teaching a roomful of students. Now the reason I chose the subject of math was because it was my most difficult subject throughout my school career. There were many nights sitting at the dining room table crying because I didn't understand the math assignment. I understand my students' anxieties and struggles in math, and I want to help them gain confidence in a tough subject.

What’s the best thing about being a teacher and working with students?

The best thing about being a teacher and working with students is those "aha" moments when students get it!

What is your favorite part of the school day?

My favorite part of the school day is standing at the junior high doors greeting students as they enter.

How have you experienced God at PCS?

I have seen God show up in students' hearts as they grow and change through the years. I see God soften my heart towards all my students.

Favorite scripture verse?

"Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12

Tell us a little about your family, please!

My husband is an ICU nurse in the Legacy Hospital system. My oldest son graduated from Portland Christian in 2023 and now attends University of Alabama majoring in mechanical engineering. My next son is a sophomore who plays soccer and baseball. My youngest son is a freshman who runs Cross Country and can be found behind the stage for crew or at times on stage front and center.

What do you like to do in your free time? 

Our family loves to downhill ski in the winter at Anthony Lakes in Baker City. I also enjoy reading and am on a race walking team in the summer.
