Music

Music is a gift from God and is meant to be shared.  Elementary students receive two music classes a week from a certified music instructor.  At Portland Christian, students experience music in many ways by:
  • Singing as a group
  • Learning about instruments
  • Studying musical notation and composition (writing their own songs)
  • Studying music history – famous composers and songs
  • Experiencing ear training
  • Singing spirituals, folk songs, opera, music from other cultures
  • Learning about music in relation to other arts
  • Playing a band instrument in Beginning Band (offered to 4th and 5th graders)

Students have a chance to shine through performances like:
  • Christmas program – preschool (ECE) through 5th grade come together in December singing about our Savior’s birth
  • Chapel – patriotic chapels, talent show chapels, class performances throughout the year
  • Easter/Grandparents Day – different performances each year to honor Easter
  • Kindergarten – students give adorable performances all year and at Kinder Graduation
  • Recorders – 4th graders give a recorder concert
  • STOMP – 5th graders create their own Broadway style STOMP performance
  • Spring musical –  4th and 5th graders put on an amazing Christ-centered musical
