Why did you choose to work at Portland Christian?

I love teaching and wanted to be in a Christ-centered environment.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Portland Christian?

I love the flexibility and the fun we get to have while learning. Our kids can excel in multiple different areas, make mistakes and learn from them in a safe environment, and grow closer to Jesus! I love that we can put relationships first and build from there.

Why did you choose your specific area of teaching?

4th grade is a blast. Kids are mature enough to start exploring the more challenging aspects in life, while not being afraid to still have fun! We also get to dive deeper into our own state's history! Wagons west!

What’s the best thing about being a teacher and working with students?

The best thing is watching students grow throughout the year. We reflect a lot and see how far we've come! When a student can recognize their own growth, I know we're done our job.

What is your favorite part of the school day?

My favorite part of the day is our prayer journal time. We have a particular thought, question, or Bible verse displayed and students write or draw what they think or any questions they have. We get to turn the lights down low, put on some awesome worship music, and give students a chance to connect with God in their own way.

How have you experienced God at PCS?

I've seen multiple students get baptized. I've also seen kids start to ask the hard questions. Kids will definitely keep you humble and make you do some research to find the answers! I get to either plant the seeds of curiosity or help the faith grow through the Holy Spirit.

Tell us a little about your family, please!

My husband, Kevin, is the lead pastor at Beautiful Savior Lutheran in Happy Valley. We have three girls: Charlie is in PCS preschool as a Ladybug, Lucy is 18 months, and Maggie was just born in February. We have a dog, Captain, and live in Gresham. We love our big backyard with our pool! We love warm weather and sunshine when we get it!

What do you like to do in your free time? 

We go to parks, do little DIY projects around our house, read, and play!

Tell us something the students don't know about you: 

They know pretty much everything :) Kevin and I watch full series of TV at a time. We just finished all 15 seasons of Supernatural... :)

Anything else you would like to share? 

I played college softball at Concordia Nebraska, and I lead worship at our church.
