Jensyn Lown, Class of 2017

To have Jensyn Lown back at PCS eight years after her graduation is a wonderful blessing. Her attitude and gratitude toward Portland Christian are evident in her words: “… it is an honor to stand on PC grounds and reflect on who this place allowed me to be, while also bringing back things I have learned from adult life, post-school, and sharing those with the high school students I spend time with now.”

During this 2025–2026 school year, Jensyn has served as the Girls Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach and is currently the Varsity Throws Coach for Track & Field.

PC Favorite Memories

Jensyn embraced every opportunity available to her, participating in as many extracurricular activities as she could from 5th through 12th grade.

“The best part about PC is that there is not one box to fit into – you can try multiple things and be successful in each of them. I was able to participate in four varsity sports, music, theatre, student leadership, worship team, AP classes, National Honors Society – anything and everything I had an interest in, I was able to try. You just can’t get that experience at a large school where you are expected to specialize in just a few activities. PC has great programs and my memories of basketball state tournaments, State track in Eugene, daily double soccer practices, choir trips to Disneyland, and student council retreats at Mt. Hood are memories that I hold in my heart forever.”

Her impact on PC student life continues to this day. Jensyn and her classmates helped create and establish traditions like the annual Barn Bash and the spring kickball tournament.

“Being a part of creating something that is still loved to this day is a really special feeling. Seeing how much the kids today love Barn Bash brings me right back to the day we dreamed up the idea and planned our very first one on Sauvie Island.”

Favorite PC Teacher

One of Jensyn’s favorite teachers was Mr. Dan Beaumont. It is a meaningful connection, as he had also taught her mother Michelle, Bible during her middle school years.

“It was really cool having a teacher who knew my mom in that capacity. I loved feeling like there was some type of “legacy” my family had through PC. Mr. Beaumont’s Bible classes in Jr High was one of my first experiences reading the Old Testament and actually understanding that Scripture. The way he was able to translate the stories into visual, modern descriptions for us so that we could understand were incredible. His homework assignments and special projects were always my favorite because they required us to interact with the Bible and search for answers on our own. It was such a fundamental experience for me learning how to crack open my Bible on my own and interpret the information. Learning those skills as a 13-year old were fundamental in establishing my faith and allowing me to grow to where I am today.”

She also recalls a lighter, memorable detail, “Plus, I will never ever forget that during study time Mr. Beaumont would play Disney park theme music in the background. It was always the happiest and most relaxing class! Probably because our hearts were full of scripture, and our ears were full with some of the happiest sounds from the “happiest place on Earth””.

Life After Graduation

“I attended George Fox University where I got my bachelor’s degree in Marketing. I then stayed for another 2 years to achieve my MBA. While at George Fox I was a member of the Track & Field Team. Being a part of the track and field team at PC was a huge part in helping me become a collegiate athlete. Coach Jannsen’s knowledge of and passion for the sport encouraged me to give it my all to make a college team.”

Jensyn credits PC’s athletic programs and coaching for helping prepare her for the next level, “it helped me grow in my skills, passion, and confidence to get me to where I needed to be to go through the college recruitment process. I had a great experience being a javelin thrower at George Fox.” She now finds joy in coming full circle, “to be coaching alongside Coach Jannsen with the PC High School track team!”

Returning to PC

“I always hoped to return to PC as a coach. I have younger siblings who I knew would go through PC. A dream of mine was to coach them – and I have, in basketball. Now, helping coach the Girls Basketball team and the Track & Field team, I still feel that same sense of pride being able to help these young kids believe in themselves, and grow to their full potential. Helping humans believe in themselves and grow in their confidence is one of the things I feel called to, and I am so grateful for PC giving me the chance to do that through coaching.”

Significance of Returning to Work at PC

“It is such a full circle to go from being a student and now being “co-workers” with a bunch of my previous teachers. I only graduated 8 years ago, so several of my teachers and coaches are still around. It’s such a unique experience. I don’t think I will ever allow myself to be on a first-name basis because even though we coach together, they will still always be Mr. Jannsen and Mr. Felton. It’s the same for all the other staff members I run into on campus. I have too much respect for each of them to transition to first names. When you’re around the people who helped grow you into the adult you are now, they will always be “Mr” and “Mrs.”

Final Thoughts

“I love this place so much! When I have kids one day, I have every intention of also sending them through Portland Christian. I can’t wait to see how the school continues to grow and impact young people, and I am just so excited to be on staff and be even just a tiny piece of contribution to that.”
