Jr/Sr High School Academic Advising

The Dean of Students role at the Jr/Sr High School is multifaceted:

  • Meeting with every student during their junior and senior year to evaluate their goals and higher education plans
  • Planning every student’s yearly class schedule, ensuring that the state and school’s requirements are met
  • Monitoring progress of student’s grades
  • Student counseling to be successful in the classroom
  • Coordinating frequent visits to the campus from colleges and universities from across the U.S.
  • Organizing and offering Annual College Day each fall where:
    • More than 30 colleges are represented
    • Presentations are given on the process of college admissions

Assessments services are provided:

  • Standardized academic testing occurs throughout the year for all students
  • Grades 6-10 students are assessed twice a year through the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) program
  • Teachers use the results of these assessments to support student learning and measure growth over time
  • Juniors are required to take the PSAT, it is an elective for sophomores
  • An advisory class is offered as an option for SAT preparation for all high school students
  • Grades 8-9 students can, in the winter, take the PSAT designed for those grade levels
  • Advanced Placement (AP) students may take the AP tests in May
The PCS curriculum is comprehensive enough so that students are ready to take the SAT or ACT, succeed in college level coursework, and be prepared for their future after high school.
