PC Families, the first week of school has come and gone very quickly and our fall athletic teams have had a busy week to start the seasons. After the dust has settled here on the first few weeks of athletics, our Fall Athletic numbers right now have climbed to 165 kids, which is an incredible number of PC students participating in athletics right now. Below is a quick update on each group along with contact information and team store information for each team. Look forward to another busy week next week.

Athletic Release Schedules – I-5 Traffic

I just wanted to make everyone aware that everyone in Portland will start dealing with the traffic issues with parts of I-5 closing down starting Friday night, for the next five weeks. This could lead to some earlier release times for our athletes and we will make sure we do our best to have your kids to any away games on time, while communicating all release times. For Junior High parents transporting athletes to away games, we may adjust the release time for any 4 pm game as well so be prepared for this moving forward.

High School Volleyball

The girls’ are off to a tough start after dropping a 3-0 decision to 3A ranked Dayton on Thursday here at PC. Navigating through a lot of injuries right now, and then arguably the toughest schedule in the state right now, Coach D has been able to give her young teams some much needed experience in big games which should serve them well later in the season. The girls are away next week at Westside Christian before starting league play with matches at Country Christian on Thursday. They cap off the week with the St. Paul Tournament, September 19th at St. Paul High School.

High School Boys Soccer

The boys’ varsity group is off to a 0-2 start after dropping a 3-0 decision at Corbett on Thursday and then a 2-0 decision to top five ranked CS Lewis last week. With one of the youngest groups in the state right now, the varsity groups has showed some great improvement according to Coach Ancheta and the tough non-league schedule should help them for league play starting up in a few weeks. The group will travel to Blanchet on Monday of next week before finishing off the week with an away game at Faith Bible, September 18th.

High School Girls Cross Country

Cross Country is off to a great start with two meets already under their belt. Both groups traveled to Forest Grove for the Viking 3K back in late August where Ava Smith set the school record for the 3,000 meters during the meet. Both groups then traveled to Tillamook last weekend for the always entertaining Ultimook Race which includes a course that makes you run through mud, water, etc. As the group will tell you, this is always one of the best meets to attend during the season. The team will travel to Oregon City this Saturday for the OC Invitational before traveling to Lewisville Park, WA next week for a tri-meet with Union and Battle Ground.

High School Girls Soccer

Your Lady Royals soccer team picked up a huge 1-1 draw at Parkrose on Tuesday, in a very entertaining back and forth game against the 5A Broncos. After multiple chances in the first half, Clara Crummett scored her very first high school goal on a great through ball chip shot to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. Parkrose equalized in the second half and put some pretty good pressure on, but Scarlette Fisher had some great saves to help secure the tie for the Royals. PC then traveled to Blanchet the very next day in a very difficult back-to-back and lost a 7-0 decision to one of the top 3A teams in Salem. PC is back on the pitch next week with just one match at Western Christian on Tuesday.
